The first portfoliodays by Art Platform Warp were organised in 2007 and developed to an international artist village in 2010 (Sint-Niklaas), 2012 (Genk) and 2013 (Genk). To discover and keep in touch with emerging artists Warp decided to organise a portfolioweekend this year.
Every day there are 5 private conversations between artists and professionals on the basis of the artist’s portfolio. The main goal is to get (positive) feedback on the content of your artworks and artistic practice. Each conversation lasts 45 minutes. This implies that the artist has to be rather direct and to the point or has to focus on specific problematic items within their oeuvre or development. The meeting should lead to a profound reflection of the working process, the creation of an oeuvre and lead to a better positioning of themselves as professional artist in the art world. After 5 p.m. conversations and meeting continue open and informally.
For this edition the context is an exhibition ‘Splash’ organised by Warp focussing on the problem of water in the world and the possible engagement of artists to worldproblems and conflicts. On Friday 3th of October (8.30 p.m.), artist Philip Aguirre will talk about his public project in Douala / Cameroon where he realised a theatre around a source with local inhabitants.
The Warp-portfoliodays take place on October 4th and 5th in Antwerp. Artists from abroad are welcome from Friday 3th of October on in the afternoon at Duinstraat 124, 2060 Anwerp (a 10 minutes walk from the Central Railwaystation: ‘Station Antwerpen Centraal’ – on the map: from left corner down to right corner up).
Every day breakfast, lunch and dinner is included and shared together. Cool drinks, coffee, tea and fruits are at your disposal during the day. In the evening the activities are open to the public, each night we are glad to offer you some free drinks at the bar.
For artists from abroad we foresee a very modest housing (caravan) at the premises of Duinstraat 124, the studio and exhibitionspace of Katleen Vinck, one of our former participants of portfoliodays, exhibition in London and the triennial Coup de ville. The fee to participate (including stay, meals and talks) is € 90. After welcoming the artists at 2 p.m. on friday there will be some studiovisits in Antwerp.
Application:aged under 35 / by preference some international experience / digital portfolio to: firstname.lastname@example.org before September 23th. Selection will be communicated on September 25th. The artists have to arrange their own travels towards the location of the portfolioweekend.
